The Night Circus
Dear Light,
Some books entertain you. Some teach you. And then there are the rare ones that haunt you.
The Night Circus will always haunt me.
Not because it’s a sappy love story. And definitely not because it’s one of those spicy romantasy books.
It’s something much deeper.
At its heart, it’s about 2 ppl who believed they knew the path their lives would take.
Until love changed the path.
Celia and Marco are bound to a magical competition they never chose. There are rules. Expectations. An ending already written for them by their families.
But then they fall in love. ♥️♥️
Deeply enough that eventually the lives they thought they were supposed to live no longer matter as much as finding a way to remain together.
When the choices before them seem impossible, they create another one.
They sacrifice the conventional ending & what they believed were their deeper desires but they don’t sacrifice each other.
Sometimes love isn’t choosing between the 2 options life hands you…Sometimes love creates a 3rd.
Maybe that’s why this story has never left me.
My life didn’t follow its original plan either.
Some of my earliest dreams were rewritten by disappointment and the curveballs life throws when you’re busy making other plans.
For a long time, I think I saw that as the dream being broken. A life lost. A life shattered. Defeated & destroyed.
I don’t anymore.
Maybe life wasn’t asking me to give up the dream.
Maybe it was asking me to become open enough to imagine another one.
That openness has become one of the things I value most about myself. I have a strong foundation & there are things I will not move on…But beyond those things, I want to remain curious.
About God.
About love.
About people.
About ideas I haven’t considered.
About ways of living I haven’t imagined yet.
Maybe that’s why The Night Circus touches something in me I can’t completely explain.
Perhaps I’ve known a love like that somewhere before & some part of me hopes to know it here.
Or perhaps the story simply reminds me of something I’ve had to learn in this life:
The life you planned is not necessarily the life that will mean the most to you. 🩵🕊️💕
Sometimes the dream changes because you changed. Sometimes life takes away one ending so you can write another. And sometimes what matters most isn’t whether your life looks anything like the one you imagined when you were young.
It’s whether, when everything else falls away, you had the courage to choose what became most sacred to you.
Celia and Marco didn’t get the conventional ending. They got each other.
I’ve decided that at the end of my days when I look back, that’s all that will matter to me as well. Ask yourself that question too. Has your answer evolved or is it the same.
HAUNTINGLY good read.
In love & light,
Maryana 🩵🕊️✨
